About Huella Covid-19

Huella COVID-19 is a platform developed in collaboration with the Medellín Mayor's Office, the Government of Antioquia, Grupo EPM, Servinformación, and Google Cloud Platform. It presents information from geographic analyses showing the chronology of infections over time, current positive cases, potential suspected first-degree contacts, and graphs to identify second-degree contacts.

It also shows results on trends and infection hotspots when scheduling staff departures and arrivals by shift for Hidroituango's 3 camps, with the possibility of expanding to all of the Group's workplaces.

The challenge

As an initiative for oversight and high-impact decision-making using innovative technologies (Intelligent Location, Data Analytics, Machine Learning, Big Data, and Artificial Intelligence), the main initial challenge was to develop a secure WEB platform that would allow all available sources related to the COVID-19 pandemic to be visualized.

The solution

The WEB platform contains 300 billion mobility data points from more than 1.5 billion mobile devices in Antioquia. This information has been anonymized and stored for more than 6 months and comes from user-authorized advertising sources in applications (people's privacy and identity are respected at all times).

This historical footprint information is collected in real time, linked to the wide range of geographic information on Grupo EPM's facilities, georeferenced at the block and work-zone level, unified, and transformed to deliver geographic and descriptive analytics that support authorities' decision-making.

This footprint technology monitors people's mobile phone IDs in real time, compares daily health surveys, and performs analytics to identify virus carriers at specific locations through historical tracing within the camp blocks. It also identifies people who have been within 10 meters for more than 15 minutes as potential suspected cases, as well as internal and external mobility patterns and social distancing. These results support internal prevention campaigns and staff management to effectively contain the spread of COVID-19.

Results with the tool used

With the platform, Grupo EPM gained a tool for monitoring, control, management, and decision-making focused on coordinating joint efforts among different entities in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. It identified people suspected of being asymptomatic carriers of the virus, who were informed of their situation and the next steps to prevent uncontrolled spread.

About the customer

Colombia's EPM Group, headquartered in Medellín, Antioquia, comprises companies located in Central America, Chile, Mexico, the United States, Spain, and Colombia.

Its market is based on electricity, natural gas, drinking water, basic sanitation, waste collection, recovery and final disposal, and information and communications technology services.

Products (used)

SitiData: Geographic analysis relies on correct location, standardization, and address validation, which is why the SitiData service is important for improving strategies and maximizing the value of information.

Google Cloud Platform: From application platforms to containers, virtual machines, storage, and descriptive and predictive data analytics, GCP technology offers its full cloud computing capabilities to effectively achieve objectives.

Google Maps Platform: Using GCP infrastructure, Google Maps Platform provides geographic data enrichment through its numerous integration APIs, giving users the best-known geographic visualization without sacrificing capabilities, reliability, or performance.

Maps JavaScript API: Enables display of the map itself. Through this API, users can view any information results on places of cultural interest or activities obtained through the Google Maps APIs we choose to implement.

Huella: Real-time human mobility information from more than 1.5 billion devices provides the input for understanding people's behavior at a particular time and place, identifying behavioral patterns for different analyses.

CARTO: The future of intelligent location lies in a platform with the power to perform spatial analysis, data science workflows, visualization, storage, integration, and management of different data sources.
